KNEE AND LEG INJURIES
Acute Injuries:
What is it? | Signs & Symptoms | Treatment | |
ACL Sprain | The anterior cruciate ligament can be injured by quick direction changes, sudden stopping, incorrectly landing or by direct blow. |
PCL Sprain | The posterior cruciate ligament is often injured when an athlete falls on a bent knee. |
LCL Sprain | LCL sprains occur when the knee is forced medially. These types of sprains only account for about 2% of all knee injuries. |
MCL Sprain | MCL sprains occur when the knee is forced laterally. |
Meniscus Injuries | One of the most common injuries in the knee are meniscus injuries. The meniscus is cartilage located in the knee, which acts to cushion and stabilize the knee. Meniscus injuries are common in contact sports, or sports that require a lot of jumping or quick cuts. |
Dislocation | Dislocations indicate that the bones that make up a joint have moved out of place. In the knee, dislocations may occur in sports following a hard collision with another athlete or a hard fall. |
Fractures | The patella is the most commonly fractured bone around the knee. However, fractures to the distal end of the femur or proximal head of the tibia can also be fractured. |

Chronic Injuries:
Chronic injuries often result from acute injuries, since they can lead to long-term knee pain. A treatment which is used for chronic and severe knee pain is a knee replacement surgery. TAPE JOBS:
The following tape jobs are used to treat injuries that occur at the knee or leg:
